Aspirin + pravastatin is a fixed-dose combination drug containing two active ingredients with complementary cardiovascular protective effects. Pravastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that lowers cholesterol by inhibiting its synthesis in the liver, thereby reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and total cholesterol levels. This helps prevent atherosclerosis and related cardiovascular events. Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) acts as an antiplatelet agent by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), which reduces thromboxane A2 production and thus platelet aggregation, lowering the risk of blood clots that can cause heart attacks or strokes.
