Overview
Asvon is a fixed-dose combination of aspirin and vonoprazan, developed and marketed by Swiss Pharmaceuticals in Pakistan. Aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts as an antiplatelet agent by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of thromboxane A2. Vonoprazan is a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) that inhibits the gastric H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump) in a reversible and potassium-competitive manner. This combination is primarily indicated for the prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers in patients who require long-term low-dose aspirin therapy for the prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. Vonoprazan provides superior and more rapid acid suppression compared to traditional proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), thereby reducing the risk of aspirin-induced mucosal damage.
