Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aster tataricus + raphani semen is a traditional herbal combination used in East Asian medicine, particularly within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The formulation consists of the root of Aster tataricus (Tatarian aster) and the seeds of Raphanus sativus L. (radish seed, known as Raphani Semen or Lai Fu Zi). - **Aster tataricus** root contains triterpenes and has been used for at least two thousand years in TCM to treat respiratory conditions such as coughs and phlegm disorders[6]. - **Raphani semen** is rich in alkaloids, glucosinolates, brassinosteroids, flavonoids, and fatty acids. It is traditionally used to address gastrointestinal issues like indigestion and constipation as well as respiratory symptoms such as cough with phlegm[1][5]. Modern studies suggest it may have beneficial effects on hypertension, obesity, diabetes mellitus, constipation, coughs[1], and may regulate lipid metabolism by affecting genes involved in lipogenesis[2]. The combination is typically employed for its expectorant (phlegm-resolving), digestive-aiding (carminative), anti-inflammatory properties. The mechanism involves modulation of inflammatory mediators and support for gastrointestinal motility.
