Overview

A combination of a beta-blocker (atenolol) and an alpha-blocker (doxazosin) used primarily for the treatment of hypertension. Atenolol selectively blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, reducing heart rate and contractility, while doxazosin blocks alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, causing vasodilation and reducing peripheral vascular resistance. This dual mechanism provides enhanced blood pressure control, particularly in patients whose hypertension is inadequately controlled with either agent alone.
