Overview

ALK203 (atexakin alfa) is a recombinant human interleukin-6 (rhIL-6) protein being developed by Alixer Nexgen Therapeutics for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). While interleukin-6 is commonly recognized as a pro-inflammatory cytokine, ALK203 utilizes its neurotrophic and regenerative properties to address nerve damage. The drug acts as an agonist of the IL-6 receptor complex, activating signaling pathways that promote nerve growth, enhance vascular repair, and stimulate axonal regeneration. By targeting these pathways, ALK203 aims to restore peripheral nerve function and alleviate the symptoms of neuropathy in diabetic patients. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development.
