Overview

LTM1201L is a pharmacological combination therapy consisting of atomoxetine and oxybutynin, developed for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Atomoxetine is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI) that increases upper airway muscle tone by stimulating the hypoglossal motor nucleus. Oxybutynin is a muscarinic antagonist that prevents the inhibition of these motor neurons, particularly during REM sleep. The combination is designed to address the reduction in upper airway dilator muscle activity that occurs at sleep onset in OSA patients. The therapy was pioneered by researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital and is being further developed by Apnimed under the code AD128. Clinical studies, including NCT03640052, have demonstrated that the combination significantly reduces the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and improves upper airway stability during sleep.
