Overview

Atomoxetine + sertraline is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Atomoxetine is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI), primarily used for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), commonly prescribed for depression, anxiety disorders, and other mood disorders. This combination may be considered in patients with co-occurring ADHD and depression or anxiety. However, there are potential drug interactions between these agents; both can increase serotonin levels in the brain, raising the risk of adverse effects such as serotonin syndrome. Clinical studies have shown that adding atomoxetine to sertraline in patients with depression incompletely responsive to sertraline does not significantly improve outcomes compared to placebo[1][2][4].
