atorvastatin + amlodipine

Atorvastatin + amlodipine is a combination therapy consisting of atorvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin), and amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. Atorvastatin functions by inhibiting the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis, thereby reducing LDL cholesterol and providing pleiotropic vascular benefits. Amlodipine acts by blocking the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, resulting in peripheral vasodilation and a reduction in blood pressure. This combination is primarily indicated for patients with comorbid hypertension and dyslipidemia. A Phase 4 study conducted at Gachon University Gil Medical Center specifically investigated the additive beneficial vascular and metabolic effects of this combination compared to monotherapy in patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension.
