Overview

Atorvastatin + ezetimibe is a fixed-dose combination oral medication used to lower cholesterol levels, particularly low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, in patients with primary or mixed hyperlipidemia and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that reduces endogenous cholesterol synthesis in the liver, while ezetimibe inhibits intestinal absorption of dietary and biliary cholesterol. The combination targets two distinct pathways of cholesterol regulation to achieve greater reductions in LDL than either agent alone. It was approved for use as adjunctive therapy to diet and other lipid-lowering treatments. The product was marketed under brand names such as Liptruzet, Atozet, and Lypqozet but has been withdrawn from the US market since June 2015[1][2][3][5].
