atorvastatin + lisinopril

Atorvastatin + lisinopril is a combination drug regimen being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials for the prevention and mitigation of radiation-induced heart disease (RIHD) in patients receiving thoracic radiation therapy. The regimen combines atorvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) known for its lipid-lowering, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic properties, with lisinopril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that modulates the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system to reduce oxidative stress and vascular damage. This repurposing strategy aims to protect cardiac tissue from the long-term complications of radiation exposure, such as microvascular dysfunction and fibrosis, which are common in survivors of breast, lung, and esophageal cancers.
