Overview

This drug is a fixed-dose combination containing **atorvastatin** (a statin, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor), **losartan** (an angiotensin II receptor blocker, or ARB), and **hydrochlorothiazide** (a thiazide diuretic). Such a combination would theoretically combine lipid-lowering, antihypertensive, and diuretic effects into a single medication. Atorvastatin lowers cholesterol by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, losartan relaxes blood vessels by blocking angiotensin II receptors, and hydrochlorothiazide lowers blood pressure by increasing urinary excretion of sodium and water. While the combination of losartan and hydrochlorothiazide is well established clinically for hypertension and stroke risk reduction, as is atorvastatin for dyslipidemia, a triple combination of all three in a single fixed-dose product is not known to be marketed or approved. The available literature supports pairwise combinations (especially losartan plus hydrochlorothiazide, and experimental data for atorvastatin plus losartan), but not all three combined in a single product for routine clinical use[1][2][3][5][7].
