Overview

Atorvastatin + methylprednisolone is a combination of two small molecule drugs used together for their complementary therapeutic effects. Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that lowers cholesterol levels and exerts anti-inflammatory and vasculoprotective effects. Methylprednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. This combination has been studied in conditions such as multiple sclerosis relapse, where it demonstrated improved outcomes compared to glucocorticosteroid monotherapy, including reduced disability progression, fewer brain lesions, extended time to relapse, and modulation of inflammatory cytokines[2]. Preclinical studies also suggest benefit in inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis when both agents are combined[4].
