Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of two HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) that is generally not recommended for standard clinical use due to overlapping mechanisms and increased risk of side effects. Limited research suggests it may be beneficial in specific cases of heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (HFH) patients who experience liver toxicity with higher doses of single statins. The combination (20 mg/day atorvastatin plus 40 mg/day pravastatin) was administered for approximately one year in a small study, showing beneficial effects on lipid parameters without causing hepatotoxicity.
