Overview

ATRA + filgrastim is a combination therapy consisting of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and filgrastim, a recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). ATRA is a derivative of vitamin A that induces differentiation and apoptosis in certain malignant cells, particularly in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), by binding to the retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARα) and modulating gene expression. Filgrastim stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of neutrophil precursors by acting as an agonist at the G-CSF receptor, thereby increasing neutrophil counts and reducing infection risk during chemotherapy or bone marrow suppression. The combination may be used experimentally or off-label to enhance hematopoietic recovery or for investigational purposes in oncology settings.
