Overview

This is a combination of three drugs—atropine, atracurium, and sufentanil—used primarily as premedication for endotracheal intubation and anesthesia, especially in neonates and infants. Atropine is an antimuscarinic agent that reduces vagal-mediated bradycardia during airway manipulation. Atracurium is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker that induces skeletal muscle relaxation to facilitate intubation and surgery. Sufentanil is a potent synthetic opioid analgesic used for its rapid onset and short duration of action to provide analgesia during procedures. The combination aims to optimize intubating conditions by providing sedation (sufentanil), muscle relaxation (atracurium), and prevention of bradycardia (atropine). This regimen has been shown to improve first-attempt success rates for intubation in premature infants without significant hemodynamic instability, though desaturation events can occur[1][2][9].
