Overview

Atropine + succinylcholine is a combination of an anticholinergic agent and a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent used in clinical research to manage anesthetic complications. **Atropine sulfate** is a small molecule muscarinic receptor antagonist that blocks parasympathetic (vagal) stimulation of the heart, thereby preventing or treating bradycardia. **Succinylcholine** (also known as suxamethonium) is a short-acting depolarizing muscle relaxant that acts as an agonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction, causing persistent depolarization and subsequent skeletal muscle paralysis. This specific combination was investigated by **Assiut University** in a Phase 4 randomized controlled trial (NCT02676011) to evaluate the efficacy of different atropine administration routes and timings in preventing bradyarrhythmias induced by repeated doses of succinylcholine during gynecological laparoscopic surgery.
