Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Augment Injectable**, originally developed as **GEM OS2**, is an injectable bone-graft combination product containing recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor BB at 0.3 mg/mL, beta-tricalcium phosphate granules, and a bovine type I collagen matrix. The recombinant growth factor activates platelet-derived growth factor receptors to recruit and stimulate repair-associated cells and angiogenesis, while the beta-tricalcium phosphate matrix provides an osteoconductive scaffold for bone formation. BioMimetic Therapeutics evaluated GEM OS2 in a randomized pilot study of closed unstable distal radius fractures; the product was subsequently marketed as Augment Injectable and is FDA-approved as an alternative to autograft for specified ankle and hindfoot arthrodesis procedures, rather than for distal radius fracture treatment.
