Overview

Autologous anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy being developed by the University Hospital, Montpellier for the treatment of systemic sclerosis (SSc). The therapy involves collecting a patient's T-cells via leukapheresis, genetically modifying them using a lentiviral vector to express a CAR targeting the CD19 antigen found on B-cells, and re-infusing the cells following lymphodepleting chemotherapy. This approach aims to achieve a deep and durable depletion of B-cells, potentially resetting the immune system and halting the autoimmune and fibrotic processes characteristic of severe, treatment-resistant systemic sclerosis. The product is currently being evaluated in the Phase IIa SCLEROCAR clinical trial.
