This investigational autologous dendritic cell-based immunotherapy is being developed by the Research Institute of Fundamental and Clinical Immunology in Novosibirsk, Russia, for the treatment of colorectal cancer. The therapy utilizes dendritic cells (DCs) derived from a patient's own peripheral blood monocytes. These cells are transfected with DNA constructs encoding epitopes of specific tumor-associated antigens (TAAs), including carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM), and mucin 4 (MUC4). Once activated and loaded with these antigens, the dendritic cells are re-infused into the patient to stimulate a targeted antitumor cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) response. The treatment is currently being evaluated in early-phase clinical trials for patients with stage II-IV colorectal cancer to assess safety and laboratory efficacy in preventing recurrence and treating secondary foci.
