Overview

This investigational autologous cell therapy consists of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) derived from the patient's own bone marrow, developed by the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and the Universidad de Navarra. It is specifically designed for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The therapy is administered via a single endobronchial infusion. The mechanism of action involves the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of MSCs, which are thought to migrate to sites of lung injury and secrete paracrine factors that reduce alveolar inflammation and inhibit fibrotic processes. A Phase I dose-escalation trial has evaluated the safety and feasibility of this approach in patients with mild-to-moderate IPF.
