Autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) developed by Stem Cells Arabia are an experimental cell therapy investigated for the treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). The therapeutic process involves harvesting a patient's own bone marrow, followed by the isolation and expansion of specific stem cell populations, primarily mesenchymal stem cells. These cells are then re-administered to the patient via both intravenous and intrathecal routes. The mechanism of action is primarily based on the immunomodulatory properties of MSCs, which secrete a variety of anti-inflammatory cytokines and neurotrophic factors. These secretions aim to suppress the aberrant autoimmune response responsible for neuroinflammation and axonal damage in MS, while potentially creating a microenvironment conducive to endogenous re-myelination and neural repair.
