Overview

An investigational autologous cellular therapy consisting of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) harvested from a patient's own bone marrow and expanded for therapeutic use. Developed by the VA Office of Research and Development, this therapy is being evaluated in a Phase 1 pilot crossover study (NCT05925036) for the treatment of pain associated with chronic pancreatitis, specifically in Veterans. The MSCs are intended to exert anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects by secreting bioactive molecules that reduce pancreatic inflammation and fibrosis, potentially aiding in tissue repair and pain reduction.
