This is a combination cell therapy consisting of autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) and allogeneic human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs). Developed by Chaitanya Hospital in Pune, India, this therapy is being evaluated for the treatment of liver cirrhosis. Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent stromal cells that possess immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and pro-regenerative properties. In the context of liver cirrhosis, these cells are hypothesized to reduce hepatic fibrosis, promote hepatocyte regeneration, and improve liver function by secreting various cytokines and growth factors. The treatment involves intravenous administration of the cells in divided doses.
