Overview

This investigational autologous cell therapy is developed by Universitas Indonesia, specifically through the Stem Cell Medical Technology Integrated Service Unit at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. It is designed for the treatment of atrophic nonunion of long bone fractures. The therapy consists of autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) combined with hydroxyapatite (HA) granules, which serve as a biocompatible scaffold. The mechanism of action involves the differentiation of the implanted MSCs into osteogenic cells at the fracture site, thereby promoting bone regeneration and healing in cases where natural repair has failed. The combination is surgically implanted directly into the nonunion site rather than being administered percutaneously.
