This is an autologous cell therapy developed by Da Nang Hospital in Vietnam for the treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI). The therapy involves the extraction of mononuclear cells (MNCs) from the patient's own bone marrow using gravity centrifugation with Ficoll Paque 1.073. These cells, which include various progenitor and stem cell populations, are then transplanted back into the patient via lumbar puncture (intrathecal) or direct injection into the site of the spinal cord injury. The mechanism of action is centered on the cells' ability to regulate the spinal microenvironment, provide neuroprotection, and potentially differentiate into neural lineages to promote functional recovery and tissue repair. A Phase I-II clinical trial has been conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this approach in patients with SCI.
