Overview

Autologous bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BMMNCs) is a cell-based therapy developed by the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust for the treatment of pediatric dilated cardiomyopathy. The therapy involves the extraction of a patient's own bone marrow, which is then processed to isolate the mononuclear cell fraction. These cells are subsequently reinfused into the patient's coronary arteries via intracoronary injection. The mechanism of action is intended to promote cardiac tissue regeneration and reverse remodeling of the left ventricle. Clinical results from a randomized, crossover, placebo-controlled pilot trial indicated that the therapy is safe and feasible in children, with treated patients showing significant reductions in left ventricular volumes compared to those receiving a placebo.
