Autologous bone marrow-derived stem cells (Stem Cells Arabia) is an experimental cell therapy being developed for the treatment of various motor neuron diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), primary lateral sclerosis (PLS), progressive muscular atrophy (PMA), and progressive bulbar palsy (PBP). The therapy involves the extraction of a patient's own bone marrow, followed by the purification of specific stem cell populations. These cells are then re-administered to the patient via both intravenous and intrathecal routes. The mechanism of action is thought to involve the migration of these cells to damaged neural tissues where they can exert neuroprotective effects, release neurotrophic factors, and modulate neuroinflammation, potentially slowing disease progression and improving motor function.
