This is an investigational autologous cell therapy developed by Clínica Universidad de Navarra and Universidad de Navarra for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The therapy consists of approximately 100 million ex-vivo cultured autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) administered via intra-articular injection in combination with platelet-rich plasma (specifically PRGF, Plasma Rich in Growth Factors). The treatment is designed to address the inflammatory and degenerative environment of the osteoarthritic knee; the MSCs provide immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects through paracrine signaling, while the PRGF serves as a bioactive adjuvant and scaffold to support cell viability and provide additional growth factors for tissue repair. The therapy has been evaluated in Phase I/II and Phase II clinical trials (notably NCT02365142) to assess its safety and efficacy in reducing pain and improving joint function.
