Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells (BM-MNCs) developed by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in collaboration with the Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network (CCTRN). The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own bone marrow, isolating the mononuclear cell fraction—which includes hematopoietic stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells, and mesenchymal stem cells—and delivering them via electromechanical-guided transendocardial injection directly into the ischemic myocardium. The treatment is designed for patients with chronic ischemic heart disease, left ventricular dysfunction, and ischemic cardiomyopathy who are not candidates for standard revascularization. The primary therapeutic goal is to promote neovascularization and improve myocardial perfusion and contractile performance through paracrine signaling and potential direct tissue regeneration.
