Overview

Autologous CD133+ cells are a population of progenitor cells, including endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and hematopoietic stem cells, isolated from a patient's own bone marrow or peripheral blood. These cells are characterized by the expression of the CD133 (Prominin-1) surface marker, which identifies a primitive cell subset with high regenerative and angiogenic potential. The therapeutic approach involves the isolation and selection of these cells—often using magnetic cell separation systems—followed by delivery to ischemic tissues, typically via transendocardial or intracoronary injection. Once delivered, these cells are intended to promote neovascularization and therapeutic angiogenesis, thereby improving blood flow and functional recovery in patients with cardiovascular conditions such as refractory angina, myocardial infarction, and peripheral artery disease.
