Overview

This is an autologous cell therapy consisting of CD133+ endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) administered in conjunction with percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). Developed by Shanghai 10th People's Hospital, the treatment is designed for patients with diabetic foot and infrapopliteal peripheral arterial disease. The process involves isolating CD133+ cells from the patient's peripheral blood mononuclear cells using magnetic-activated cell sorting. Following successful revascularization via PTA, these cells are infused intra-arterially into the popliteal artery of the affected limb. The EPCs are intended to integrate into damaged vascular endothelium and promote angiogenesis through paracrine signaling and direct integration, thereby improving microcirculation and wound healing in the diabetic foot.
