Autologous CD133+ peripheral blood stem cells is an investigational cell therapy being evaluated for hepatic regeneration in patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases. The therapy involves mobilizing the patient's own CD133-positive hematopoietic and progenitor stem cells from the peripheral blood, followed by enrichment (typically via immunomagnetic separation) and infusion into the portal vein. This procedure is performed in conjunction with preoperative portal vein embolization (PVE) to stimulate the growth of the future liver remnant (FLR). The goal is to achieve sufficient residual liver volume to allow for safe and feasible major hepatectomy in patients who would otherwise have inadequate liver reserve.
