G-CSF + CD133 cells is an investigational autologous cell therapy protocol developed by Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital for the treatment of critical limb ischemia (CLI), particularly in diabetic patients with below-the-knee peripheral arterial disease. The procedure involves the administration of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) to mobilize CD133+ hematopoietic and endothelial progenitor cells from the patient's bone marrow into the peripheral circulation. These mobilized cells are subsequently harvested via leukapheresis, enriched, and reinfused intra-arterially into the ischemic limb. The therapeutic rationale is based on the ability of CD133+ progenitor cells to home to ischemic sites and promote neoangiogenesis and vascular repair, thereby improving perfusion in patients with severe peripheral arterial disease where conventional surgical or interventional techniques are insufficient.
