Overview

This autologous CD19-targeted chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is an investigational cell therapy developed by the Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The treatment involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that specifically recognizes and binds to the CD19 antigen expressed on the surface of B lymphocytes. Upon reinfusion, these engineered T cells mediate the depletion of B cells, including those producing pathogenic autoantibodies. This 'immune reset' strategy is intended to treat severe, relapsed, or refractory autoimmune diseases where B-cell-driven pathology is central. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for a broad range of conditions, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), systemic sclerosis (SSc), ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV), idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM), and Sjogren's syndrome (SS).
