Overview

Autologous CD34+ and CD133+ Stem Cells is an investigational cell therapy developed by Stem Cells Arabia for the treatment of chronic complete spinal cord injury (SCI). The therapy involves the isolation and purification of autologous hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) expressing the CD34 and CD133 markers, which are harvested from the patient's own bone marrow or peripheral blood via leukapheresis. These unmanipulated, purified stem cells are then transplanted directly into the site of the spinal cord injury. The treatment is designed to promote neural repair and functional recovery through potential mechanisms such as paracrine signaling, immunomodulation, or cellular differentiation. Clinical evaluation, including a Phase I/II trial (NCT02687672), focuses on assessing safety and improvements in sensory and motor functions using the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) impairment scale in both pediatric and adult populations.
