Overview

This is an investigational adoptive cell therapy developed by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. The therapy involves the ex vivo selection and expansion of a patient's own (autologous) CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocyte clones that specifically recognize melanoma-associated differentiation antigens, such as MART-1 (MelanA) and gp100. These antigen-specific T cells are infused back into the patient, typically following lymphodepletion with agents like fludarabine, to induce tumor regression. The treatment protocol often includes the administration of low-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2) to support the persistence and function of the infused T cell clones.
