This autologous dendritic cell vaccine, developed by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, is a cell-based immunotherapy designed for the treatment of newly diagnosed and recurrent glioblastoma. The vaccine is produced by isolating a patient's own dendritic cells via leukapheresis and pulsing them with a lysate derived from an allogeneic glioblastoma stem-like cell (GSC) line. This approach is intended to activate the patient's immune system against cancer stem cells, which are hypothesized to be the primary drivers of tumor recurrence and resistance to standard therapies. In a Phase I clinical trial (NCT02010606), the vaccine was administered in an induction phase followed by a maintenance phase, demonstrating safety and tolerability while suggesting potential survival benefits in both newly diagnosed and recurrent glioblastoma patient populations.
