Overview

This autologous dendritic cell vaccine is a cell-based biologic immunotherapy developed by Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). The vaccine is produced by generating dendritic cells from a patient's own peripheral blood under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions. These cells are then pulsed with specific leukemia-associated peptides, including bcr/abl, Wilms Tumor Protein (WT-1), and proteinase-3, to ensure the presentation of distinct CML-related antigens. The primary therapeutic goal is to induce anti-leukemic T-cell immunity to immunologically eradicate residual leukemia cells in patients who are in stable cytogenetic or molecular remission but still present with minimal residual disease (MRD). Keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) is utilized as an adjuvant in the vaccine preparation to enhance the immune response.
