This autologous dendritic cell vaccine is a personalized cancer immunotherapy developed by Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for the treatment of advanced melanoma (Stage III or IV). The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and maturing them in the presence of autologous tumor cell lysate, which contains a broad spectrum of the patient's specific tumor-associated antigens. Once these matured and pulsed dendritic cells are re-administered to the patient, they function as professional antigen-presenting cells, priming and activating the patient's T cells to recognize and eliminate melanoma cells. This approach aims to generate a robust, specific, and durable anti-tumor immune response tailored to the individual's unique tumor profile.
