Overview

The autologous dendritic cell vaccine developed by the Istituto Romagnolo per lo Studio dei Tumori (IRST) "Dino Amadori" is an investigational cell-based immunotherapy designed for the treatment of refractory microsatellite-stable (MSS) or mismatch repair-proficient (pMMR) metastatic colorectal cancer. This personalized biologic is produced by harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and loading them with tumor-associated antigens to stimulate a targeted immune response. The vaccine aims to convert immunologically "cold" tumors into "hot" ones by priming T-lymphocytes to recognize and attack cancer cells. It is currently being evaluated in the Phase II CombiCoR-Vax trial (NCT06522919) as part of a sequential immunochemotherapy regimen that includes pembrolizumab induction followed by maintenance therapy with trifluridine/tipiracil and bevacizumab.
