This combination immunotherapy regimen, developed by the Istituto Romagnolo per lo Studio dei Tumori (IRST) Dino Amadori, consists of an autologous dendritic cell vaccine and high-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2). The vaccine is prepared by pulsing a patient's own dendritic cells with autologous tumor homogenate, a process intended to prime the immune system against a broad spectrum of patient-specific tumor antigens. High-dose IL-2 (aldesleukin) is a recombinant cytokine administered via continuous intravenous infusion to promote the proliferation and activation of cytotoxic T-cells and natural killer (NK) cells. This protocol is designed for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) who have progressed on prior systemic therapies, often incorporating boost radiotherapy to enhance the anti-tumor immune response.
