**autologous dendritic cell vaccine + CMV pp65 RNA-modified** is an investigational, personalized cellular immunotherapy developed by Antwerp University Hospital. It consists of autologous (patient-derived) monocyte-derived dendritic cells that have been genetically modified ex vivo via electroporation with messenger RNA (mRNA) encoding the cytomegalovirus (CMV) pp65 antigen (the 65 kDa lower matrix phosphoprotein, UL83), a major immunodominant CMV protein. Administered intradermally, the vaccine is designed to prime or boost CMV-specific T-cell immunity (both CD4+ helper and CD8+ cytotoxic T-lymphocyte responses) in CMV-seronegative adults prior to kidney transplantation, with the goal of prophylactically protecting them against CMV infection post-transplant. It is being evaluated in a Phase 1 pilot trial (EudraCT 2012-005575-13) in Belgium assessing its safety, feasibility, and immunogenicity.
