This autologous dendritic cell vaccine is a personalized cancer immunotherapy developed by the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research. It consists of a patient's own monocyte-derived dendritic cells loaded with peptides from the NY-ESO-1 cancer-testis antigen and the NKT cell agonist alpha-galactosylceramide (α-GalCer). The vaccine is designed to stimulate a robust anti-tumor immune response by presenting NY-ESO-1 to T cells while simultaneously activating type 1 Natural Killer T (NKT) cells via the α-GalCer adjuvant. It has been investigated in Phase I and Phase II clinical trials as an adjuvant treatment for patients with high-risk, surgically resected stage II–IV cutaneous melanoma to prevent recurrence.
