Overview

This autologous dendritic cell vaccine, developed by the Baylor Research Institute, is an investigational cell therapy designed for the treatment of recurrent lymphoma. The therapy involves harvesting a patient's monocytes, differentiating them into dendritic cells ex vivo, and then injecting them directly into a tumor site that has recently undergone local radiotherapy. This "in situ" vaccination strategy leverages radiotherapy to kill tumor cells and release a diverse array of tumor-associated antigens, which the injected dendritic cells then capture, process, and present to the immune system. By migrating to regional lymph nodes and activating tumor-specific T cells, the vaccine aims to generate a systemic immune response capable of targeting both the local tumor and distant metastatic sites (the abscopal effect).
