Autologous fat cells + adipose-derived stem cells + platelet-rich plasma is a cell-mediated regenerative therapy used primarily in ophthalmology. The treatment involves a suprachoroidal graft of mature adipocytes and adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) contained within the stromal vascular fraction (SVF), enriched with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This combination is administered via the Limoli Retinal Restoration Technique (LRRT). The therapeutic rationale is based on the ability of these autologous components to secrete a variety of growth factors and cytokines (such as VEGF, bFGF, and TGF-β) that provide neurotrophic support to the retina, aiming to improve retinal functionality in patients with atrophic (dry) age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Clinical observations have shown significant improvements in electroretinogram (ERG) responses, particularly in rod-mediated signals, following treatment.
