Overview

Autologous fecal microbiota transplantation (auto-FMT) is a microbial therapy that utilizes a patient's own fecal microbiota, collected and stored prior to antibiotic exposure, to restore gut microbiome homeostasis. In the clinical research led by Otto Helve, the microbiota is processed through lyophilization and encapsulated for oral administration following a course of antibiotics such as amoxicillin-clavulanate. The primary objective is to accelerate the recovery of intestinal microbial diversity and prevent antibiotic-associated dysbiosis by reintroducing the individual's unique baseline microbial community, thereby mitigating the risk of opportunistic infections and long-term microbiome disruption.
