Overview

Auto Fecal Microbial Transplant (Auto-FMT) is an investigational autologous microbiome-based intervention designed to restore the gut microbial ecosystem following disruption by antibiotic therapy. Developed by the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, the procedure involves collecting and processing a patient's own fecal microbiota prior to treatment and re-administering it after the completion of antibiotics. This approach aims to mitigate the side effects of broad-spectrum antibiotics, such as those used for Helicobacter pylori eradication, by replenishing beneficial bacterial species and preventing long-term dysbiosis. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for its safety and efficacy when delivered via oral capsules or enema.
