This is an investigational combination therapeutic strategy being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT05887167) led by Dr. Joshua Sasine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The approach involves the collection of autologous hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) from patients with relapsed or refractory hematological malignancies prior to the administration of an FDA-approved chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. The collected HSCs are then infused back into the patient (typically on Day 10 post-CAR T infusion) to support hematopoietic recovery and potentially mitigate common CAR T-associated toxicities, such as prolonged cytopenias, cytokine release syndrome (CRS), and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS). The study targets various B-cell malignancies, including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and multiple myeloma (MM).
