This investigational cell therapy, developed by the University of Jordan, utilizes autologous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis and articular cartilage disorders. The process involves harvesting MSCs from the patient's own bone marrow, followed by in vitro expansion under controlled conditions. The expanded cells are then delivered via intra-articular injection into the knee joint. The therapy aims to promote the regeneration of damaged articular cartilage through the induction of autologous repair chondrogenesis. A Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT02118519) has been conducted to evaluate the safety and therapeutic efficacy of these MSCs, comparing their use alone against a combination with platelet lysate to support cartilage healing.
