Overview

NOK Therapeutics is developing a combination therapy consisting of autologous natural killer (NK) cells and the anti-PD-L1 monoclonal antibody avelumab for the treatment of advanced bladder cancer (urothelial carcinoma). The therapy utilizes genetically unmodified NK cells derived from the patient's own immune system. By combining these cells with avelumab, the treatment aims to overcome resistance to checkpoint inhibitors and enhance antitumor immune activity through both NK cell-mediated and T cell-mediated cytotoxicity. This approach is specifically targeted at patients who have relapsed following platinum-based chemotherapy and avelumab maintenance therapy. The program is currently in Phase 1 clinical development and is notable for not requiring lymphodepletion, potentially offering a safer and more accessible alternative to traditional CAR-T cell therapies.
